Beberapa waktu lalu aku dapet ilmu baru dari guru aku a.k.a Miss Fatma lohh, nahh kali ini aku bakal jelasin materi mengenai Short Function Text yang baru aku pelajari kemarin. Sebelum masuk ke materinya, ada yang tau gaknih apa itu Short Function Text?

Definition of Short Function Text

Short functional texts are types of informational texts to help the readers understand the information quickly. Called as Short functional text because it is on average very short and has a special purpose.

Slightly different from genre text, functional text is more applicable, written and used in daily communication. Actually, there are many kinds of functional texts in English and they tend to develop because of their functional nature.

A functional text is a type of written material to help perform a specific need or fulfill a specific purpose. The man is reading a functional text on the cake mix box for the specific purpose of making a cake. The boy is using a functional text to put together his new castle set, and the wife is reading a functional text because it is fulfilling a purpose to eventually replace the mattress.

Functional texts can be found anywhere. Any types of written material that are aimed to solve a problem, learn how to do something, or get information that is immediately used for a specific purpose are considered functional texts.

Purpose

Setiap teks pasti dibuat berdasarkan tujuan yang jelas, karena jenis text bahasa Inggris yang berbagai macam tentunya fungsinya pun bermacam- macam tergantung textnya.

The concept of functional texts may seem simple, but the function is very specific. For a text to be considered functional, it has to meet certain guidelines. First and foremost, functional text is factual and not fiction

Second, a functional text must be used to fulfill a specific purpose, solve a problem, or provide information that allows a person to function in day-to-day life. People often confuse simple explanatory or informational texts for functional texts.

Functional texts are written to help readers perform, or function, in their daily lives. These specialized texts provide information and directions to help a reader.

Type / Kind Of

1. Notice (warning/caution)

Notice is writing or a sign to provide information, instructions or a brief warning to the public. Caution Is a form of written warning to the reader to be careful.

2. Announcement

Announcement is an official statement or notification that is spoken, written or printed so that it is generally known about something that has happened or will happen. Announcements can be heard or found anywhere, usually posted in a place that people can easily see.

3. Short Message

Short Message is short information that functions to inform someone about something when they cannot meet the person in person. Short messages can be in the form of short notes on paper or sent via SMS (Short Message Service).

4. Greeting Card

Greeting cards are cards that express the feelings of another. Usually given an interesting picture or writing to give attention to others.

5. Letter

Letter is a written message with various contents and intentions sent to

somebody. Letters can be sent by postal service or by electronic mail or commonly known as e-mail.

Structure

1. Notice

The Purpose of the text to give instruction/to instruct people

a. Opening: contains an introductory picture

b. Content: contains details or description.

c. Closing: contains a hope for others.

2. Announcement

The purpose of the text to information us what has happened or what will happen

a. The title or type of event

b. Date or time, place.

c. Contact person.

3. Short Massage

The purpose of the text to convey something to others that the person is doing or not doing something

a. Receive: people who receive

b. Content: contains of greeting card

c. Sender: people who send

4. Greeting Card

The purpose is to congratulate someone’ achievement, express sympathy on someone’s, and motivate someone on gaining achievement.

a. Receive: people who receive.

b. Content: contains of greeting card.

c. Sender: people who send.

5. Letter

The purpose of the text to convey information from one party to another, and to inform about something.

a. Address and date

b. Receiver: the recipient’s full name and address.

c. Contents: information about news, condition

d. Sender: the person who sends the letter.

e. Signature: the signed name of the writer.
