Tapi justru karena jarang digunain, kamu mungkin sudah lupa gimana dan apa saja yang bisa kamu deskripsikan tentang seseorang. Jenis teks ini yang paling umum digunakan untuk membuat teks deskripsi.

What is Description People?

Description of people is to describe people clearly starting from the shape of their face, height, and what they do. Used to provide a description of the person being discussed, starting from the physical characteristics possessed to the personality.

There are many functions of making a description of people, for example finding missing people, being a witness in court, wanting to give someone a gift.

When describing people, we must know the characteristics of that person very well. This is done so that what we describe to someone (describing people) has a feel so that we can feel what will be expressed in the description text.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary (from the Latin for "name," also called wordstock, lexicon, and lexis) refers to all the words in a language that are understood by a particular person or group of people. There are two main types of vocabulary: active and passive. An active vocabulary consists of the words we understand and use in everyday speaking and writing. Passive vocabulary is made up of words that we may recognize but don't generally use in the course of normal communication.

Example of Vocabulary

Attractive

a person who is good looking (male or female).

Youthful (looks)

a person who looks young, or much younger than their actual age.

Bald

A person who has no hair. Some bald people shave their heads.

Beautiful

a person who is extremely good looking (mainly used to describe women).

Chubby

a polite way of describing someone who is a bit overweight.

Handsome

a man who is extremely good looking

Scruffy

Used to describe someone whose appearance is very untidy.

Thin

Used to describe someone who weighs less than the average person (impolite!).

Blonde

A person who has yellow hair

Fat

A very negative way to describe someone who is overweight (very rude and a bit insulting!).

Fit

(1)    Someone who gets a lot of exercise and very healthy.

(2)    A very attractive person.

Gorgeous

Very attractive (used to describe men and women).

Well-built

Someone whose body shape or size is bigger than the average person.

Word Order

Before the adjectives you will normally have the Determiner.

Determiner: The determiner tells us if the noun is singular or plural, definite or indefinite

• a, an, the, my, your, four, those, some, etc.

And then we have the adjectives that refer to…

Opinion: Explains what we think about something. This is usually our opinion, attitude or observations. These adjectives almost always come before all other adjectives.

• beautiful, boring, stupid, delicious, useful, lovely, comfortable

Size: Tells us how big or small something is.

• big, small, tall, huge, tiny

Shape / Weight / Length: Tells about the shape of something or how long or short it is. It can also refer to the weight of someone or something.

• round, square, circular, skinny, fat, heavy, straight, long, short,

Condition: Tells us the general condition or state of something

• broken, cold, hot, wet, hungry, rich, easy, difficult, dirty

Age: Tells us how old someone or something is.

• old, young, new, ancient, antique

Colour: The colour or approximate colour of something.

• green, white, blue, reddish, purple

Pattern: The pattern or design of something.

• striped, spotted, checked, flowery

Origin: Tells us where something is from.

• American, British, Italian, eastern, Australian, Chilean

Material: What is the thing made of or constructed of?

• gold, wooden, silk, paper, synthetic, cotton, woollen

Purpose/Qualifier/Use: What is it for? These adjectives often end in –ing.

• sleeping (bag), gardening (gloves), shopping (bag), wedding (dress)

If you look at the examples above, you can ask… what are the gloves used for? (gardening) What is the bag used for? (shopping)

And after these adjectives we have the noun.

Noun: The person or thing that is being described.

Sample

My Grandmother 

I have a grandmother, her name is Mary M. Lewis. I usually called her Granny Mary.

Her hair isn’t gray like other grandmothers, but blonde. Her body is quite short, about 5′ 1″. She has brown and bit wrinkly skin.

Granny Mary lives in a house with my uncle and aunt. I visit her twice a week. I think she is not that old, because she is 70 years old. However, she still looks fit and strong.

She usually goes to the backyard to help my uncle. Sometimes, I go to the backyard with my brother as well and help her pick flowers. We love our grandmother so much.

 

Taylor Swift

Taylor Alison Swift is an American singer & song writer. She is known for narrative songs about her personal life. Her songs are very popular, namely Shake It Off, Blank Space, Bad Blood. Taylor Swift has appeared as one of the most influential and powerful women by Forbes as well as Time Magazines.

By 2019, Taylor Swift’s age is 30 years old. She was born on December 13, 1989 in Reading, Pennsylvania, United States. This beautiful girl has 5′ 10″ tall & weighs 54 kg. Her hair is blonde while her eye color is blue. Her lips are usually red as she likes red color very much.

 

J. K. Rowling

J. K. Rowling is a British novelist who writes phenomenal fantasy book series of Harry Potter. The books have got worldwide attention. They have become the best selling book series in history. They were sold more than 400 million copies.

Joanne Rowling was born on 31th July 1965 in Yate, Gloucestershire, England. So, she is 54 years old by 2019. About her physical appearance, her height is 5′ 5″, while her weight is 54 kg. She has blonde hair & blue eyes. She’s married two times; she’s got three children.

JK. Rowling is a terrific & successful novelist that becomes the richest woman in England. In fact, once she had become unemployed with a destitute life. By writing Harry Potter books which are loaded with spectacular high imagination, she turns to be very famous and wealthy.

Writing

To improve English writing skills, learn to write regularly. Try making an example of a people description in the form of a paragraph or dialogue like the example below.

For example if you're looking for someone or looking for a missing person.

Me       : Excusme, is this the law school building?

Nadine : Yes, what do you need?

Me       : I'm looking for my sister, she called me this afternoon because her book was left in my room.

Nadine : Can you tell me what the characteristics are.

Me       : She is 163cm tall, slightly shorter than me. Today she is wearing a black shirt with a light brown hijab. Her skin is white, she has thick eyelashes and has round eyes.

Nadine : Did your sister tell you what class she's getting today?

Me       : She said earlier today he received Civil Law materials.

Nadine : Oh it seems I met your sister earlier, she is now in building C class A10, class ends at 15.00 pm. Quickly meet her before she leaves the class!

Me       : Okay, I will meet her now. Thank you Nadine.
